We created a visual dashboard that presents data about Bluemix and its services to users.
The dashboard is a live feed of Bluemix's data. It is meant to be presented on a TV screen at the IBM office so Executives, Bluemix Administrators, Developers, and Bluemix Dedicated users can view performance metrics.
01 /
IBM Design Thinking Workshop
Creating target user perspectives helped the team determine how to create a successful user experience for the dashboard. We identified what features and functions to implement that would help all users.
numbers/trends
Eric the Executive wants to see numbers and trends. He wants to show the dashboard in executive meetings. He wants to know how many people are using Bluemix, he does not have a developer background.
user experience
Alison the Admin wants to see organized data. They want a nice user experience and see Bluemix's usage rates. She wants to know which services are being used and which ones need improvement.
02 / Define
learning more
about Bluemix
Dante the Developer wants to learn more about Bluemix and have more confidence in the services he is using. He wants to know the top services in Bluemix and what other users are choosing.
03 / Chart Research
After understanding what data we needed to present on the dashboard, we needed to determine how we were going to show the data. My role was to research the types of charts we can use alongside the data.
build environments rather than dashboards & create dialogue between multiple visualizations
main takeaways
-
pie charts are best for viewing proportions
-
line charts are used when message has to be communicated quickly
-
as more information in bar charts increase, it becomes less effective
04 / Design
wireframe
When presented on a TV, the dashboard will circulate through the visual graphs. There is a live heatmap of the IBM offices that the users are in.
We utilized Bluepages to pull user data from.
final design
The dashboard was presented to executives, the CIO, and the Vice President of CIO Design.
05 / Further Development
creating a dark mode
Dark mode can be used when presenting in a dimly lit room. We can switch from light to dark mode based on time of day. This will reduce eyestrain and energy consumption on LED screens,
utilizing IBM's services
We also want to develop Blueview further by using Watson Data Analytics, restricted data with SSO, and develop a Mobile Companion App
